Is today your special day?
How are YOU going to celebrate?
Hey frogs & toads, thanks for your patience; while you were waiting, I hope you had a chance to check out my interview in the latest edition of Malpractice Magazine.
It’s time to take your creative prescription. This week, we’re making up holidays! In general, holidays are pretty cool, right? Having dates on the calendar that mean something to you… that shit’s important! The thing is, a lot of the popular holidays often involve organized religion, commercial business, or making small talk with your weird cousin. And that’s not always as cool!
But did you know that you can just make up your own holidays? And I’m going to let you in on another little secret - did you know that all of the existing holidays were just made up at some point too? There’s literally nothing stopping you from just adding your own to the list. Isn’t that neat?!

Creating your own holiday is a simple, two-step process. Here’s how it’s done:
First, pick a date on the calendar. It can be your birthday, a hero’s birthday, a memorable event in your life, or the anniversary of the time your sharted in Best Buy. Any date will do.
Then, give it meaning. Make it sacred. Attach a ritual of significance to the date, and make it something that you’ll look forward to. Most importantly, make this holiday specific to YOU!
For example, here are five holidays that I created and celebrate each year:
March 16th is 3:16 Day, where we take the time to drink beer, do some push-ups, and raise some hell.
May 11th is Dali Day. On this day, we eliminate all distractions and make something crazy.
July 18th is Gonzo Day. This is a time to sit along with your thoughts, reflect, and write down what comes up.
August 23rd is Kobe Day. Use this day to optimize - ask yourself, how can I get better? What can I learn? What needs to improve?
Finally, November 11th is 11:11 Day, where we set goals, targets, and intentions for the upcoming year. This gives you 50 days to practice, make changes, and ramp up to January 1st.

That’s pretty much all there is to creating your own holiday. So, what’s your new holiday going to be? Let me know when it is & what it entails!
Or, feel free to join me in celebrating any of my holidays; the more the merrier!
By the way, how come it’s “the more the merrier” but also “misery loves company”… which one is it??
Anyway, I digress…
I’ve got some awesome in-person events coming up this summer. If you’re in or around the Montreal area, come on out, they’re free and fun!!
Come by Burgundy Lion on June 8th for NBA Finals Arts & Crafts - limited spots, reserve yours now….
And on Sunday, July 13th I’ll be showing some of my art and putting together a bonkers bday party, would love to see you there!
Oh, and don’t forget to sign up for Dr Lemco’s Creative Club, it’s good for you! Trust me, I’m a doctor ;)
Until next time, take care of yourself and don’t do anything that I wouldn’t prescribe.
